How to rate a game on BoardGameGeek

How do I rate a game on BoardGameGeek?

Rating only takes 1 minute.

So you played a game and would like to rate it on BoardGameGeek? That’s quite easy when you know what you’re doing. All you need is a BoardGameGeek account. In this short explainer, we’ll show you how it’s done.

  1. Sign in to BoardGameGeek

If you have a BGG account, make sure you are signed in. No account yet? Create an account first. Don’t forget to click the confirmation link in the welcome

  2. Find the game on BoardGameGeek

Either use the Search feature or directly open the page of the game you want to rate (e.g. Rollecate)

  3. Select the number of stars you want to give

The easiest way to rate a game is to directly click on the number of stars you would like to give. You’ll find 10 grey stars in the black header of the game page. If you would like to give 8 stars (to indicate the game is Very Good), click the 8th star.

  4. Add a comment

A window will appear that allows you to indicate whether you own the game. There is a big box that allows you to add some comments. These will be public and are a good place to tell people why you like (or dislike) the game.

  5. Tip: assign half stars!

If you can’t decide between for instance 8 and 9 stars, here’s a good tip: in the popup window there is a small text box next to the stars. If you would like to give 8½ stars, enter “8.5” in this box. Other fractions are possible, too.

  6. Save and done!

All you need to do to complete your rating is to click the Save button. Do that, and you’re done! Your rating will be added to the list for the game.
